In celebration of my 1,000th post – my ideal garage. While most of these are attainable in my lifetime, the E-Type certainly isn’t. But what petrol head could possibly have a celebratory post without the most beautiful car ever made.

My true dream car – what’s yours?

For people like us, saying we are ‘gear heads’ or ‘petrol heads’ simply doesn’t describe our connection to cars. They seem to have a deeper hold on us – something that we can never quite fully express, but always feel. And while we may have heated discussions and passionate opinions about cars we’ll likely never own or even drive, there is always that one car that fascinates and mesmerizes us.

And it’s not the supercars – it’s more honest, more simple. We may get carried away with the performance, extravagance, and the styling of the established supercars or more attainable sports cars; we may become wrapped up in the various battles for top speed, horsepower, or 0-60 times, but for most of us, that one special car is never going to win any records. It does, however, win over our hearts.

For me, that car has always been the BMW E9, either the CS or CSi. It’s beautiful; utterly, utterly gorgeous. It possesses all of the funk of the 70s – quite cool. Though many may disagree, and others will be quick to point out that the CSL was better, none of those arguments will have any weight. I’m hooked – simple as that. True, I may temporarily become captivated by the Z3M coupe, or find myself drooling over the new Z4, or even strongly compelled to purchase an E46 M3 – yes, I have a BMW bias – but money in hand, would I buy one? No (even if I could afford them). I’d find myself in the showroom, ready to drive off with what would undoubtedly be a wonderful car, but there would be something missing, something in the back of my mind raising subtle doubts.

Condition wouldn’t even matter, for I know if I had the opportunity to purchase an E9, I’d be shoveling over every dime I had before I knew what hit me. It’s my true ‘dream car.’

What’s yours?

I’d never seen one in brown before, but it’s my new favorite color for the E9.
